General Criteria And Guidelines

Purpose

The Littleton High School Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals, establishes pride, and preserves the tradition of the Littleton athletic program by recognizing those who have made a significant contribution to the athletic program in the Littleton School District.

Award Categories

A member of the Athletic Hall of Fame can include:

1.  Athlete

2.  Coach

3.  Team

4.  Any other individual who has made a significant contribution to promote Littleton High School athletics

Requirements for Selection

Athlete

  • Athletes will become eligible after at least five (5) years from graduating Littleton High School.
  • The athlete must have made an outstanding contribution in his/her sport(s): i.e. all-district or all-state honors; all-time leading scorer; holder of any school record; winner of a district or state championship; league MVP; all-star selection; sportsmanship award or other recognized award or honor. Notable post-graduation achievements will also be considered.
  • The athlete should also have exemplified high character while and after representing Littleton High School. That is, he or she should be a positive role model, worthy of being emulated by current and future students.

Coach

  • Coaches will become eligible after at least five (5) years of retirement/inactivity from the Littleton High School coaching staff.

  • The coach must have at least three (3) years of service coaching at Littleton High School.

  • The coach must have made an outstanding contribution to the athletic program at Littleton High School: i.e. leading a team to league, regional, or state recognition; introducing and building a particular athletic program at Littleton High School; longevity of service to an athletic program; an individual’s win-loss record in coaching career.

  • The coach may not have left Littleton High School for any reasons detrimental to the image of the school.

Team

  • A team shall be eligible after at least five (5) years of its noteworthy achievement. The team shall have received recognition in a significant way: i.e., division, sectional, league, state champion/runner-up; consecutive number of years of high achievement/winning records; recipient of special award (s) for sportsmanship.

Contributor/Friend of Sport

  • This individual will have made an outstanding contribution to the interscholastic athletic programs at Littleton High School other than coaching and playing: i.e. significant financial support; significant number of volunteer hours in assistance of athletic program.

Nomination Procedures

Persons Eligible to Nominate

  • Those eligible to nominate inductees may include, but are not limited to: Hall of Fame Board Members; current or former faculty, administration, staff of Littleton High School; alumni of Littleton High School; Boosters Club; former athletes; former coaches; townspeople; local media.

Nomination Form

  • All entries shall be submitted on the Littleton High School Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form, which is to be filled out accurately and completely for consideration. Forms are available through the Littleton Public Schools online website, www.littletonps.org. (Click on Athletics link; then click on Hall of Fame link.); at the Town Library; at Donelan’s Supermarket; or by contacting Ed Hunt at 978-486-3783.

  • A letter of recommendation from the person making the nomination must be included.

  • In addition to the official form and the letter of recommendation, the following materials should be submitted for an individual’s or team’s consideration:

    • Other letters of support from appropriate individuals who can validate or substantiate information related to the high school career and/or contributions of nominee.

    • Within reason, other supporting materials, including newspaper articles and photographs; certificates; historical records; letters; film footage, etc.

    • A photograph suitable for reproduction should be included.

  • Nomination forms and support materials shall be completed, submitted to Athletic Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 933, Littleton, MA 01460, by June 15, 2009, for a candidate to be considered for induction. All nominations received must contain an active and current address and contact information for the nominee (or family, if nominee is deceased). Failure to supply adequate support material will result in invalidation of the application.

Term of Nomination

  • In the event that the nominee is not selected for induction the year the nomination is made, the nominee will remain eligible for the following five (5) years during which time the Hall of Fame Board will keep all forms and nominations on file. After five (5) years, a person may be re-nominated.
